Interested in learning about your family's history? This program will give you general information on how to get started researching your family's genealogy. You will learn about where to look, what to look for, and how to go about your research. A special emphasis will be given to records in Central New Jersey.
Elizabeth King Pellicane is a professional genealogist with over 17 years experience. Her focus is New Jersey, in particular, Essex, Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset and Warren counties. She is a volunteer at the Hunterdon County Historical Society and a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, Central Jersey Genealogical Club,Genealogical Society of New Jersey, the Hunterdon County Historical Society, the National Genealogical Society, and the New England Historic Genealogical Society.

An "old-fashioned scavenger hunt with a modern twist" will be organized by the Friends of Princeton Nursery Lands, in collaboration with the D&R Canal State Park naturalist. This nature- and history-themed event will be held at Mapleton Preserve/D&R Canal State Park , Teams will cooperate to find natural objects and complete fun-filled tasks in a timed event. Digital or cell phone cameras, simple sketches and/or map annotations will
be used to record any items that are too big to "collect" (bring your cell phones or cameras if you have them).
Bring your family or form an adult team, meet new friends, and get your imagination working while exploring the fields and trails of
Mapleton Preserve. Refreshments will be served. The event is free, and participants of all ages are welcome to join in the fun.
Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

From Route 1: Exit at Ridge Road; head towards the village of Kingston for approximately 1 mile. Take second left, following Ridge Road (aka Division St). At the stop sign at the end of Ridge Road, turn left. The D & R Canal State Park Headquarters and Mapleton Preserve are located 0.2 miles on the left side ofMapleton Road.

Alternatively, take the Mapleton Road Exit, heading towards the village of Kingston for 1.7 miles. At the stoplight, turn left on Mapleton Rd.. The park office and Mapleton Preserve are located approximately 0.6 miles from the stop light on the right side of the road.
From Route 27: Turn onto Academy Street at the traffic light in Kingston (across from the KingstonCemetery). Academy Street becomes Mapleton Road as it heads towards Route 1. The park office and Mapleton Preserve are located 0.3 miles from Rte 27 on the left side of the road.

Canal Walk
Sunday, August 5, The Delaware & Raritan Canal Watch will hold another in a series free walking tours of the D&R Canal
This walk will be conducted by Canal Watch board member Bob Barth, who will point out historic sites and canal structures along the way.

Sunday, August 5, Meet 10 a.m.at the canal’s Lock 11 in South Bound Brook, across from the 11 Madison St.U.S. Post Office building. Carpools will be arranged to allow one-way walks.
1. (5.3 miles) Walk the D&R Canal Main Line from Landing Lane, New Brunswick to Lock 11, South Bound Brook.
Or do a shorter walk:
2. (3.7 miles) Walk the D&R Canal Main Line from Landing Lane to 5-Mile Lock. Cars can be left at 5-mile lock for this one-way short walk.
