A fascinating story of the events leading up to the signing of the Declaration of Independence by Richard Stockton of Princeton, New Jersey, the Summer of 1776 and the November 20, 1776 British invasion of New Jersey all proceeding the capture of Richard Stockton and his incarnation in the old Middlesex County Jail in Perth Amboy will be told by American Revolutionary War historian, Donald Johnstone Peck, author of George Washington and the Ghosts of the Revolution in Central New Jersey and published by American History Imprints. Richard Stockton was the only Signer to recant his allegiance to the United States and then take an oath of allegiance to King George 111. Does the ghost of Richard Stockton still inhabit his ancestral home -Morven- in Princeton, New Jersey? Peck will attempt to convince skeptics that history is more mysterious than they ever imagined.

Sunday, October 16 through February 17 - Middlesex County
The Museum of the American Hungarian Foundation presents the exhibition Hungarian Masterworks: From Impressionism to Modernism which will showcase fine art from the Jill A. Wiltse and H. Kirk Brown Collection from October 16, 2011, through February 17, 2012.
In the last fifteen years, scholars have given much more attention to the development of modern art in Eastern Europe. Prior to the mid-1990s in-depth art historical research in this geographic area was limited. Hungarian Masterworks: from Impressionism to Modernism explores painting, the graphic arts, photography, sculpture and decorative arts from a region rarely examined. Hungarian artists working in avant-garde trends like Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism and Post-Impressionism searched for new styles of aesthetic expression. Art was not just a creative exploration but also a mode of political expression.
The early twentieth century was a particularly tumultuous period in Hungarian political history. The country transitioned from being part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1918 to forcibly becoming a Communist state by 1947. Believing that art could influence politics, artists promoted progressive thinking and the result is one of the richest and most engaging periods in the history of art. In highly expressive works, Hungarian artists incorporated a variety of elements from different stylistic trends. Hungarian Masterworks: from Impressionism to Modernism offers a new perspective on modern art by looking at a considerable body of work by the country's best-known artists.
