  1. I was raised on River Road, from 1950-1994. My parents restored the old Wykoff-Cortelyou house there.

I remember the Harvest Homes where we kids had hayrides, and the volunteer fireman took a dumping in the water. Great food, great people.

    I miss you all.

  2. What a wonderful memory, Jane, I'm very glad you found us and shared it! And thanks for the wonderful contribution your family made to preserving the Wykoff-Cortelyou house!

If by any chance you're up this way later this month, there is a wonderful Harvest festival a the Hageman Farm (http://raritan-millstonevalleyevents.blogspot.com/2009/08/september-20-hageman-farm-harvest.html)--not too far from your hometown!

Or, if you have any friends or family up here still, please pass along the info!

    Best,

  3. Dear Yannie!

Thank you! I noticed someone just came to read my website...but they missed the new "Harvest Home" piece I just finished writing. A combination of memories and looking towards the future.

I hope you visit it and read...I really miss the rhythms of the country up there, and the beauty and history. Here? well, they are still fighting the Civil War....LOL!

We create a history and a balance if we want to remain sane...but I pull on the history of Belle Mead/Griggstown to do that.

I will pass the word to my friends (a few) who are still there: David and Pat Olsen, Jerry Steele of Princeton, and a few others. My family has mostly died out or moved out from the area...my father Albert Kohut who restored the house and raised us in it...and he was quite the craftsman. There is so much history I wish I could pass on to the new owners but I don't want to intrude. They will make their own history. Ours was particular to the 50's....and the undeveloped River Road.

So good to meet you, Yannie. Keep in touch.

    My best.
