Washington Birthday Celebration

From Don Peck:

I will be speaking at the Annual Meeting of the Washington Camp Ground Association on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 7 PM to be held at the Congregational Church, 209 Church Street, Bound Brook. My hope is that more groups will celebrate. George Washington service in New Jersey was invaluable in winning the war for independence!

Musical Program at 11:00 am

Open for Exhibit and House Tours 12:00 pm ~ 2:00 pm

As part of its annual “Tory Jack Day” program celebrating Black History Month, the South Bound Brook Historic Preservation Advisory Commission, in conjunction with The Friends of the Abraham Staats House, Inc., and in partnership with the Women’s Guild of South Bound Brook, will present a musical program, "Songs of the South" by the Voices of Tory Jack. A medley of spiritual songs and narrative, the program describes the aspirations, hopes, and struggles of free and enslaved African-Americans during the formative years of our nation.

Following the musical program, local historian Joyce Smith will display her collection of African-American artifacts. Smith’s exhibit offers a comprehensive look at black history and culture in America.

In addition, the public is invited to tour the historic Abraham Staats House. Tours will end at 2 pm. The program, exhibit and tours are free to the public. Donations are welcome.

Special Note:
The collection by Mrs. Smith will be on display at the Abraham Staats House during the month of February. The House will be open for tours, free of charge, on Saturday, February 19th and 26th from 11 am to 2:00 pm.
